DESIGN

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic brings back the much-lauded physical rotating bezel, a hallmark of earlier “Classic” models, as a tangible, intuitive means of moving about the watch face. The design as a whole offers a new “first squircle” look, combining a square-bodied case with rounded, softly curved edges, which contains precisely circular display within. This extraordinary shape is supported by a treatment of silver case, embellished with subtle details that promote its sophisticated look. It measures physically at 46.4 x 46 x 10.6 mm and weighs 63.5 g.Even though it has a 46mm case thickness, it comes with a 1.34-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 438×438 pixels.

PROCESSOR

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is driven by Samsung’s new Exynos W1000 processor.

Some important facts about this processor are:

Manufacturing Process: It is developed on Samsung Foundry’s 3nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) process, which is a substantial upgrade from the generations before (such as the 5nm Exynos W930). This lower process node helps achieve better power efficiency and performance.

CPU Configuration: It has a penta-core CPU configuration:

1 ARM Cortex-A78 performance core operating at 1.6 GHz

4 ARM Cortex-A55 power-saving cores operating at 1.5 GHz

This represents a big boost over the dual-core configuration of the previous Exynos wearable chips, providing much faster performance. Samsung says up to 3.4x single-core and 3.7x multi-core performance versus the Exynos W930.

GPU: It incorporates an ARM Mali-G68 MP2 GPU.

Efficiency: The use of the 3nm process, along with technologies such as fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP) and embedded package-on-package (ePoP), assists in making power efficiency and heat transfer better, and this could translate to increased battery life.

Integrated Features:

The Exynos W1000 also has an LTE modem, L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS to enable more accurate location tracking, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, and NFC.

OPERATING SYSTEM

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic runs Wear OS 6, developed by Google, atop the Samsung-tweaked overlay, One UI 8 Watch.

One UI 8 Watch (Samsung’s Custom Layer)

Samsung overlays its own layer of customization and distinct features on top of Wear OS. One UI 8 Watch welcomes Samsung in with:

Redesigned Tiles with themed groups: Enables better and grouped access to information and app shortcuts. For instance, you may have a “Health” Tile that stacks your daily goals, sleep data, ECGs, etc.

Now Bar / Live Updates: This feature is meant to deliver timely information directly to your wrist, like Android’s Live Activities, to follow delivery or timers.

 

BATTERY

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic has a 445mAh battery.

On the usage side of things, Samsung estimates that all Galaxy Watch 8  Classic ought to be able to last approximately 30 hours when the Always-On Display (AOD) is turned on. When AOD is turned off, battery life will be around 40 hours.
